Belmacil: The Ultimate Tinting Color Guide for Lashes and Brows

Belmacil tinting guide for mixing colors for lashes and brows
Quick Insight

Belmacil produces ten professional tint shades — Lash Lift Society carries six of them, covering the core working range for lash and brow services. Each shade has specific use cases, and most can be mixed to create custom results. Never mix Belmacil with another brand's tint or oxydant — results and safety cannot be guaranteed when brands are combined.

Knowing which Belmacil shade to reach for — and how to adjust it for each client — is what separates a guessed result from a predictable one. This guide covers every shade in the Belmacil lineup, lash vs. brow recommendations for each color, the most useful mixing combinations, and the oxydant ratio rules that affect how the color processes and holds.

The Belmacil Shade Lineup

Belmacil produces ten shades total. The six we carry cover the core working range for most lash and brow services. Here is what each one does and who it is for.

Shade Character Lashes Brows
No. 1 Black Solid matte black Maximum definition — ideal for dark or black hair Yes — richest brow result
No. 2 Blue-Black Deep black with cool blue lustre More dimensional than No. 1 — reads black with depth Generally not recommended for brows
No. 3 Dark Brown Very dark brown, solid matte Rich, opaque coverage for dark brunettes Yes — strong brow result
No. 3.1 Light Brown Light brown, ash/green based Best for light lashes — tones without darkening heavily Yes — the most versatile brow shade
No. 3.3 Honey Brown Golden light brown, red based Warm definition for blondes and warm-toned clients Yes — lightest mid-brown brow option
No. 5 Graphite Cool charcoal, activates deep Softens the result for clients who find black too stark Yes — best for mature clients and grey hair
Pro Tip

No. 3.1 Light Brown has an ash/green base, which makes it ideal for neutralizing warm or yellow undertones in light lashes. If your client has blonde lashes with visible warmth, No. 3.1 will tone them more evenly than No. 3.3.

Lash Color Selection

For lashes, the goal is usually to match or slightly deepen the client's natural hair color. The exception is when a client wants maximum definition regardless of hair color — in which case No. 1 Black is the standard choice.

No. 2 Blue-Black is worth offering to clients with black or very dark hair who want more than a flat matte result. The blue undertone adds a lustre that reads as depth and dimension under light — not obviously blue, but noticeably richer than No. 1 alone. You can also mix No. 1 and No. 2 together to get the richness of blue-black with the density of straight black.

For lighter-haired clients — blondes, light brunettes, or those with fine, sparse lashes — No. 3.1 or No. 3.3 will produce a more natural result. No. 5 Graphite works well for silver or grey lashes where black would look unnatural.

Brow Color Selection

Brow tinting requires more precision than lash tinting because the shape and density of the brow directly affects how the color reads on the face. Going too dark on brows is a harder correction than going too dark on lashes.

General Brow Shade Guidelines

Client Hair Color Starting Shade Notes
Black or very dark No. 1 Black Rich, defined result
Dark brown No. 3 Dark Brown Strong result — mix with No. 3.1 to soften
Medium to light brown No. 3.1 Light Brown Most versatile brow shade — adjust by adding No. 3
Blonde or warm blonde No. 3.3 Honey Brown Warm result — mix with No. 3.1 for a cooler tone
Grey or salt-and-pepper No. 5 Graphite Mix with a small amount of No. 3.1 for a softer effect
Auburn or red No. 3.3 Honey Brown Complements warm and red tones

No. 3.1 Light Brown is the most recommended brow shade across the Belmacil range because it gives you the most control. Starting with No. 3.1 and adding small amounts of No. 3 Dark Brown lets you build to the exact depth the client needs without overshooting. Process for 5–10 minutes, check the result, and reapply for up to 5 more minutes if a deeper effect is needed.

No. 2 Blue-Black is generally not recommended for brows — the cool blue undertone can read unnatural on brow hair and is difficult to correct if the result is too dark or too cool for the client's coloring.

Pro Tip

Document each client's individual brow formula on their client card — shade, ratio, and processing time. Belmacil's mixing flexibility means you can dial in a repeatable result for every client, and that consistency is what builds retention.

Mixing Combinations

Belmacil shades mix cleanly with each other, and customizing is encouraged. The key rule is to only mix within the Belmacil range — combining Belmacil tint with another brand's tint or oxydant affects both the color result and the safety profile of the product.

Mix Result Best Used For
No. 1 + No. 2 Deep rich black with blue lustre Dark lashes — more dimension than No. 1 alone
No. 3.1 + No. 3 Mid-range brown, adjustable depth Brows — most controllable brown result
No. 3.1 + No. 3.3 Warm light brown Brows on blonde or warm-toned clients
No. 3.1 + No. 5 Soft cool grey-brown Brows on grey or mature clients — very natural effect

Oxydant Ratio and Application

The oxydant ratio directly affects how long the color holds. Using too much oxydant weakens the lasting power of the tint and can cause the mixture to run — which increases the risk of eye contact and client discomfort.

Oxydant Rules
  • Mix ratio: 1 part oxydant to 1–2 parts tint. Never use more oxydant than tint.
  • If measuring in drops: no more than 2 small drops of oxydant per application.
  • Shake the oxydant bottle well before use — it contains conditioner that settles.
  • Cut approximately 3mm of tint from the tube using the application brush.
  • Mix for 10 seconds — one brush full per eye is sufficient for lashes.
  • Processing time for lashes: generally 10 minutes.
  • Only use Belmacil Oxydant Creme with Belmacil tints. Do not mix brands.

Tinting After a Lash Lift

Belmacil is compatible with both Elleebana One Shot and Elleeplex Profusion lash lift services. Tinting after a lift further enhances the eye area and is a standard add-on in a professional appointment.

For clients with sensitive eyes, wait one week after a lash lift before tinting. If you or the client are unsure about sensitivity, complete a patch test 48 hours before the tint service — apply a small amount of mixed tint and oxydant to the inside of the arm and behind the ear and check for any reaction before proceeding.

Pro Tip

Apply Elleebana Protective Balm around the eye and brow area before tinting to prevent staining on skin. Wet the Belmacil Paper Eye Shields before placing — this helps them conform to the lid shape and stay in position during processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — Belmacil shades are designed to be mixed within the range. Common combinations include No. 1 and No. 2 for a deeper black with lustre, No. 3.1 and No. 3 for a controlled mid-brown brow result, and No. 3.1 and No. 5 for a soft grey-brown on mature or grey-haired clients. Do not mix Belmacil tints with products from another brand.
No. 3.1 Light Brown is the most versatile brow shade and the best starting point for most clients. It can be mixed with No. 3 Dark Brown to add depth, or with No. 3.3 Honey Brown for a warmer result. No. 5 Graphite is recommended for grey or mature brows — try mixing it with a small amount of No. 3.1 for a softer, more natural effect. No. 2 Blue-Black is generally not recommended for brows.
The ratio is 1 part oxydant to 1–2 parts tint. Never use more oxydant than tint — excess oxydant weakens the color's lasting power and increases the risk of the mixture running. If measuring in drops, use no more than 2 small drops of Belmacil Oxydant Creme per application.
Yes — Belmacil is compatible with both Elleebana One Shot and Elleeplex Profusion lash lift services, and tinting immediately after a lift is standard practice. The exception is clients with sensitive eyes, who should wait one week after a lift before tinting. Always complete a patch test 48 hours before the appointment for new tint clients.
Belmacil tint lasts 6–8 weeks on lashes and brows. Results vary based on the client's skin type, aftercare habits, and how much contact the area has with water and cleansing products. Clients who cleanse the eye area frequently or use oil-based removers will see the color fade faster.
No. Belmacil tints must only be used with Belmacil Oxydant Creme. Mixing brands — even other crème oxydants — affects both the color result and the safety profile of the product. This applies to the tint as well — do not mix Belmacil tint with tints from another brand.
