Lash Lamination FAQs
Is Lash Lamination Damaging To The Lashes?
Lash lamination works by breaking down and reforming the disulfide bonds in the lashes so they can be reshaped. If not performed correctly, damage can occur. Factors that increase the risk include:
- Over-processing, which prevents bonds from reforming or breaks them down too far.
- Improper timing or uneven product placement.
Elleeplex ReGen Next Gen, combined with Elleebana’s lamination formula, provides moisture, nourishment, and support to protect lashes during processing. Remember: altering the lash’s natural pH and softening the bonds will always cause some level of stress, even if other brands claim “no damage.” Coating or film-forming agents may disguise this temporarily but can be misleading.
What If My Client’s Lashes Have Not Laminated Enough?
- Check the expiry date and storage conditions of your product.
- Consider the client’s genetic hair structure or ethnicity — some lashes need longer processing.
- Ensure the rod size allows lashes to roll at least halfway or more for a good lift.
- Apply lotion consistently with a milky thick coat up to 3/4 of the lash length — patchy placement causes uneven results.
What If One Eye Hasn’t Laminated The Same?
This can happen due to natural follicle direction differences (like a cowlick). Solutions include:
- Note it in the client record and process the stronger eye slightly longer.
- Be precise with timing — even 30–60 seconds difference can change results.
- Symmetrical lash placement on rods is critical. Take a reference photo before starting to guide alignment.
- Use adhesive sparingly. Overuse can create a barrier between the lash and solutions.
Why Have The Lashes Dropped After Tinting?
Using tints other than Elleeplex Profusion or Belmacil with their correct oxidants can cause lamination to drop. Some brands require waiting 1–2 weeks post-lift before tinting. Not following manufacturer guidelines may also void insurance coverage in case of a reaction.
Why Have The Lashes Changed Direction Or Dropped After 24 Hours?
Possible causes include:
- Client aftercare not followed (heat, water, steam, creams, or serums in first 24 hours).
- Use of oils or products near lashes within 24–48 hours.
- Processing time too short for lash strength.
- Inadequate rinsing, allowing lashes to revert back.
- Hormonal changes or medications affecting lash condition.
- Lashes not dried thoroughly at the appointment — wet lashes can look weighed down, then reveal overprocessing or poor placement once dry.
Why Do Lashes Look Crossed Or Uneven After Two Weeks?
This is due to the natural lash growth cycle, not product failure. On average, clients lose 3–5 lashes per day:
- After 2 weeks, clients may have lost 40–70 lashes, with new straight growth coming through.
- If baby lashes were laminated, they will continue growing, causing twists or unevenness.
- Some clients shed more seasonally, shortening lamination longevity.
Solution: simply re-laminate the lashes at the next appointment.
What Can I Do If Lashes Are Over-Processed Or Damaged?
- Use the relaxation method to reduce curl and reset lash shape.
- Offer an in-salon ReGen hydration service to visibly condition and nourish lashes.
- Recommend Elleeplex Advanced Aftercare for daily use to support repair and styling.
- Encourage supplements with Silica, Horsetail, Biotin, and Vitamin C to strengthen regrowth internally.
Can My Client Wear Mascara?
Yes. Elleevate Mascara can be worn immediately after lamination and removed at night with Elleebana Make-Up Remover. For other mascaras, wait at least 24 hours. Remind clients to replace mascara every 3 months for hygiene.
When Should Clients Rebook For A Re-Lamination?
Lash laminations typically last 6–8 weeks, but this varies:
- Fast growers: may need re-lamination at 4 weeks.
- Average clients: around 6 weeks.
- Slow growers: every 8–10 weeks.
If tinting is performed, schedule a 6-week tint refresh alongside the next lamination.
What If Bottom Lashes Were Caught In The Lamination?
Protection of lower lashes is mandatory. If they process accidentally:
- Perform the relaxation method on the lower lashes with eyes open.
- Sit the client more upright for better access.
- Use a wonder wand, micro-brush, or fine mascara wand to carefully apply lotion and relax the lower lashes.
I’m Allergic To Lash Extension Adhesives. Can I Have A Lash Lamination?
Most adhesive reactions are caused by exposure to cyanoacrylate. Elleeplex Profusion Lamination products do not contain cyanoacrylate, making reactions far less likely. Still, a patch test is strongly recommended for all sensitive clients.
Can Lash Lamination Be Used To Straighten Lashes Before Extensions?
Yes, but the lamination or relaxation treatment must be done 24 hours before extensions to allow lashes to return to their natural pH. Keep in mind that regrowth will make infills harder and may require a full new set instead of fills.
Can I Remove Lash Extensions And Laminate Lashes In The Same Treatment?
No. While Elleebana products have been tested within our own range, other lash extension brands vary in glue, removers, and primers. Unsafe extension application may leave lashes compromised, and laminating damaged lashes can cause further breakage. For safety, only perform lamination after extensions are removed and natural lash health is assessed.
What Determines A Healthy Lash And How Do I Spot Damage?
Healthy lashes are strong, smooth, and uniform. Damaged lashes often show:
- Breakage or snapping.
- Thin, weak ends.
- Lashes twisting or growing in different directions.
These lashes need time, nourishment, and aftercare products before being laminated again.
